Cricket News sort by England Vs South Africa 2nd Test at Leeds - AUG 02-06, 2012

The English cricket team may not have managed to register a comeback win in the second Test at Headingley, Leeds. However, they did well enough to ensure that they get a chance to draw the series that has been billed as the battle of the two best sides in Test cricket at present.

The Second Test at Headingley ended in a draw as expected but both the teams had to work extremely hard on the final day. It was just a long day at Headingley with play getting extended by nearly one and a half hours from the scheduled close.

The Second Test at Headingley is certainly heading towards a draw as there was little action that was possible on the penultimate day because of heavy showers on two occasions. South Africa were battling hard against the new ball at 39 for no loss in 17 overs before rain had the last laugh wiping out part of the afternoon session and the entire final session.

Kevin Pietersen produced one of the best knocks in the history of Test Cricket as England finished the third day’s play at Headingley with a deficit of 68 runs with five wickets in hand.

Bad light and rain brought an abrupt end to the proceedings on Day 2 in the Headingley Test with England off to a solid start in reply to South Africa’s 419. England were well placed at 48 for no loss after surviving 18 overs before play was suspended due to bad light.

South Africa were restricted to 262 for 5 by the close of play on Day 1 thanks to a sustained quality seam and swing bowling from England.

The Oval disaster may be confined to history, but can England overcome the scars they were given over four days of utterly one-sided cricket? Headingley will be a new venue, and that itself should give England hope to start afresh. They have no option but to fight back if they are to keep their credibility intact.

England have made one change to their Squad for the Second Investec Test against South Africa at Headingley in Leeds. Ravi Bopara, who failed in both the innings of The Oval Test which the hosts had lost, has been replaced with James Taylor. Bopara hasn’t been dropped but opted out of the second Test due to personal reasons.
